Air R. Keenan, of the local railway staff, is now on his annual leave. A London cable records the retirement oi General Sir Charles Alonro, lie having reached the age limit. The death is announced of Sir Theodore Cook, well known in literary, sporting, and theatrical circles in London. He had been chief of “The Field” since 1910. The death is announced of Captain C. Spinks, formerly master of the Union Compan;, ’s principal vessels, aged 69. Captain Spinks was master of the Talune when she earned fame in salving (he Perthshire in June, 1899, when that vessel was given up as lost with a broken tailshaft. The death took place at Napier yesterday of a well-known Hawke’s Bay resident in the person of Mr ,1. H. Coleman, at the ripe old age of 95 years. Deceased had been prominently associated witli the progress of the province for many years and was the donor of the Coleman Shield, which has for many years encouraged keen rivalry among the volunteer corps and rifle clubs in the province.
