THE BIG SIX.

EVACUATION OF RHINELAND.

MOKE HOPEFUL VIEW

(By Cable.—Press Assn. —Copyright) (Australian Press Assn. —United Service). (Received This day, 11.45 a.m.) GENEVA, September 13. It is authoritatively learned that the Rhineland discussions have taken a more definite and more promising turn, in which there is good reason to believe Lord Cushendun is playing a great part, also that France is beginning to realise that the longer she dallies with Germany’s claim for earlier evacuation, based on the Locarno and Paris Pacts, the more she is weakening her bargaining asset. Herr Mueller did not submit a plan at to-day’s private meeting of the “big six,” but other proposals brought the matter down from the realm of airy discussions to the stage of examining suggestions which are calculated to expedite a definite project for the early quittance of the RGcr.nd zone. When the conference resumes on Sunday it will probaby be found that the “big six” are prepared to nominate their experts for a speedy examination of the financial aspects of the problem. If will not be surprising if from this proposal there emerges something in the nature of a Locarno Commission of Military Control, which, while giving France greater security on her eastern frontier, will comfort German feelings by including’ France herself. All this has created a more hopeful atmosphere for the solution of one of the greatest obstacles to disarmament. It is known that M. Briand has impressed everyone, who will be eager to hear his message from Paris on Sunday.
