NOTES FROM THE GALLERY. WELLINGTON, Last night. Some definite in regard to the policy of the United Party and the leadership should be available shortly. A conference of the party’s supporters is to he held here on Friday, to be presided over by Mr Masters, Stratford. Already sixty candidates to carry the United banner have been selected. Invitations to attend the conference are to be sent to Sir Joseph Ward, Mr Poison, and Mr Atmore. LOCAL SUMMER TIME.

Mr E. P. Lee reported on behalf of (he special committee appointed to consider the Local Summer Time Bill. The committee were of opinion, he said, that if the bill were passed it would lead to endless confusion, and for this reason recommended that the bill eb not allowed to proceed, but that the Government he recommended to introduce a measure this session uniformly advancing the time throughout New Zealand by half an hour from October 16th to the second Sunday in March. After some discussion the report was adopted without opposition.
