Saving Up for Rates

An excellent idea to encourage ratepayers to save money for the payment of rates has been adopted by the Dis tr.ct Council, at Eastington, Durham. The council has experienced consider iblc difficulty in recovering such pay meats since the coal stoppage, five hundred money boxes, simitar i to those supplied by banks, have been diatributed among rate-payers. The p)' s of the boxes will be kept by collectors, who will visit the houses periodically. The scheme is being watched *ith interest by other authorities, and would it prove a . uccess it may be exUntied to various parts of the country.
