“Knack” of Winning £2OO Prize
Being able to write “knack” correctly won for 13-year-old Betty Robinson, of South Bend, Indiana, the title of national champion speller of the grade schools of the United States and £2OO in gold. Paulin Gray, agod 13. West Salem. Ohio, did a lot of thinking over the word. She finally slowly spelled “n-a----c-k." It meant the difference between the £2OO first prize and the £IOO second prize.
