ALL BLACKS DEFEAT WARATAHS BY NARROW MARGIN. The first Test match between New Zealand and the New South Wales Rugby team, played at Wellington on Wednesday, resulted in a win for the All Blacks by the narrow margin of three points, the final scores being l New Zealand 15, New South Wales 12. New Zealand’s score was made up of four penalty goals and one unconverted try, whilst New South Wales registered three unconverted tries and a penalty goal. It was a fast, open game. A WIN FOR HAWKE’S BAY. Playing at Palmerston North the travelling Hawke’s Bay team defected Manawhenua by 17 to 9. The following team has been selected to represent Central Hawke’s Bay in the match to he played against a Napier-Hastings team at Waipukurau to-morrow: —Ryan, Cairns, Neilsen. King, Ashby, Nieholls, Smailes. Parker, Bridgeman, Stephens, Seherf. Niekalls, Dillon, Rust, Smith. Emergencies: Reidy and Taylor (Onga Onga). The Hastings and Central junior representatives, whose match set down for last Wednesday was postponed owing to climatic conditions, will stage the curtain-raiser, play commencing at 1.45. Mr Nicholson has been appointed by the H.B. Rugby Union 1o control the junior rep. match, and Mr Cntforth will referee the senior game, which commences at 3 o’clock.
