Police Inspector Cummings paid an official visit to Onga Onga yesterday. Dr. Sedgwick, Bishop of Waiapu, paid a visit of inspection to the Abbotsford Home yesterday. News from Seattle states that Charles Lawrence (66), who took the first Australian cricket team to England, died on Friday. The body is to be cremated.—(Press Assn.).
Mr L. Wheeler left by the mail train for Wellington this morning with the object of making a selection °f special pictures for screening in Waipawa at an early date. The funeral of the late Mrs R. nay took place at Parke Island, Napier, yesterday. Amongst the pall-bearers were Messrs H. Hobin, Maher, and Cudby, of Waipawa. The deceased lady leaves seven daughters—Mrs K. Quiulivan, Wellington; Mrs S. C. Pepper, Pukehou; Mrs A. Fritchley, Napier; Mrs C. Harden, Napier; Mrs E. Whaler, Wellington; Mrs J. Hobin, Whakatane; and Miss E. Hay. At the meeting of the H.B. War Relief Association in Napier on Monday the chairman, Mr J. Harding, referred feelingly’ to the sad loss which tile district had sustained by the death of Mr Paul Hunter, and spoke appreciatively of the splendid work he had done in re-establishing returned soldiers In civil life. A resolution of sympathy with the relatives was carried in silence.
