TOWN BOARD. [Own Correspondent], The monthly meeting of the Town Hoard was held on Monday. Pre ent—Messrs .1. N. Barrie (chair), ,1. Bartlett, G. Cleary, A. 11. Bull, and .1. llislop. A number of complaints were received re cyclists riding on the footpath in the main street, and the clerk was instructed to prosecute all offenders. Mr T. Bruce's tender for carting übbish to the dump was accepted. It was decided to collect the same amount of dog tax as iu previous years. Correspondence was received from the Central Power Board re the published figures of the cost of the street lights in Otane, stating that the matter would be placed before the next meeting.—The chairman reported that he had read a statement made by the representative of the Wuipaws Borough at the last meeting of the Power Board re the cost of the street lights in Otane, and that he had asked the clerk to write for particulars of the figures quoted, with the above reply.—Members considered it strange that the Waipawa representative should be supplied with these figure* and yet the Town Board had to wait till the following meeting before they could be supplied. It was reported that the players on tile tennis court at the Recreation Ground had done a certain amount of damage, and it was decided to ascertain the cost of repairs, which the players will be asked to pay for, failing which the matter of closing the courts will be discussed at the next meeting, which will be held on the 10th January, 1927. The pay-sheet to the amount of £66 16s was passed for payment. CHRISTMAS TREE CONCERT. A particularly well-appreciated concert was given in the Town Hall on Wednesday night by a company of Waipawa amateurs in aid of the Christmas tree fund for the Abbotsford and St. Hilda’s Homes. Encores were the order of the evening, anil i the management had to refuse any in the second half. A first-class orehes- ■ tra under the couductorship of E. J Maher assisted the performers, their i items being a special feature of the > programme. Songs were contributed ■ by the Misses M. O’Halloran and R. ; King, the Rev. Mr Hall, Rnd Messrs Woods, White and Blackie; duets by the Misses Kittow and Miss King and O’Halloran; a very clever character , sketch by Miss O’Halloran, and reci- . tations by Messrs Harker, Weddc and I Critehley.
