The Rt. Hon. \\. F. Massey is now tree from sciatic pains, and is mnking good progress towards recovery. Mr J. Thorne, postmaster at Waipawa. will retire from the service on superannuation next month. Mr A. E. dull and the Misses Jull reached Wellington aboard the Maun ganui yesterday and will return | Waipawa by tin mail train this evening. The death took place at King George’s Hospital, Rotorua, on Mon* day of Mr 11. Mclntyre, eldest son ot Mr and Mrs James Mclntyre, formei* !y of Waipawa and now resident in Hastings. The late Mr Mclntyre, who wa.s employed on the staff of the Gisborne Hospital, met with an accident two years ago while bathing on the beach, as a result of which he wis paralysed. The funeral will leave St. Peter’s Church, Waipawa. at 3 p.m. to-morrow. The Hon. the Minister in Charge 01. Publicity lias notified the appointment o l Mr J. \\. One of the girls, in a neat little speech, wished Miss Sinclair every success and happiness in her new sphere, and asked her acceptance of h silver Eversharp pencil to remind her of the happy days she had spent in Waipawa. Miss Sinclair thanked the girls very much for their gift, and said it would keep fresh in her memory the happy time she had spent here. The little function closed with the singing of “For She's a Jolly Good Fellow.” Members of the Abbotsford Lodge of Oddfellows last evening tendered * farewell social to Mr E. Watts, who is having Waipawa shortly to enter the Wellington Training College. In proposing the toast of the guest and presenting him with a pocket wallet, the chairman, Mr H. M. Kathbone. spoke of the keen interest which Mr Watts hail shown in lodge matters, and also referred appreciatively to hie services as a pupil teacher at the District High School. The toast w«« drunk with musical honors and Mr Watts made suitable response. During- the evening items were contributed as follows: -Messrs (iullugbw, Petrowski, and Logan, instrumental election; trios, Messrs Bott (2) and Britten, and Messrs Petrowski, '■oil and Britten; songs, Messrs Codd •:;id Collett; instrumental selection, tir Shaw; recitations, Messrs Kirkham aud Critebley.
