WAIPAWA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Waipawa Borough Council was held on Friday evening. Present —His "Worship the Mayor (Mr H. M. Rathbone) and Crs. W. S. Thackeray, Jas. Bibby, R, J. PelloW, E. E. Bott, L. Pratiev, W. Is. Yates, and R. H. Wed do . Leave of absence was granted to Cr. F. Holt. CORRESPONDENCE. Sir Georg'e Hunter, M.P., advised that when in Wellington lie would support the Council’s application for a housing loan by a personal application to the Minister. —Received. The State Advances Office wrote advising the Council to make application in proper form. —The Town Clerk stated that he had already applied for the necessary form.

The Minister of Public Works forwarded a copy of the proposed motor lorry regulations.—Referred to Finance Committee to confer with the motor lorry owners.

United Fire Brigade Association advised that supplies of hose, etc., were now available, and forwarded quotes. A. and T. Burt, Wellington, also quoted.—The Mayor said 600 ft. with the necessary couplings, would cost £76. He pointed out that provision had not been made in the estimates for such an extraordinary

expenditure, and he doubted whether the borough's finances would stand it.—Cr. Pellow suggested that half the supply might be obtained. —Cr, Bott thought provision should be made on next year’s estimates.—Cr. Yates pointed out that fires would not wait, and it was necessary to keep the brigade's equipment efficient.— The matter was referred to the Fire Brigade Committee,' the Mayor to go into the financial question. Inspector of Explosives forwarded report on stores in Waipawa for dangerous goods. All reported on were satisfactory.—Received. F. Jull applied for a gas connection to new house in Melville street. — Work done. OVERSEER'S REPORT. H. Fletcher, borough overseer, reported; on the work for the month, as under: — Drains in the Bush roads have been cleaned out and blackberries cut down. Abbotsford Road.—Paving stones have been carted to Abbotsford road and channels repaired. Drain, Maternity Home.—One hundred and eighty feet of sewer drain has been laid in connection with the home, the Hospital Board to pay the cost. Tarring.—Sand has been carted and screened in readiness for street tarGrader.—The grader has been over most of the roads in the borough during the month. Drain Connections. —Mr G. Petherick's residence in Johnson street has been connected to the sewer main and Mr F. Jull *s house in Melville street is now being connected. Repairs to burst water connections in Ireland’s road, Ruataniwha road, and Great North road, attending to water channels, and drains Great North road, with the usual routine is the work done for the month.

Tenders were accepted for lease of Lindsay Reserve and Domain,' Mr S. Pepper being the highest for the Reserve at £l4, and Mr Sainslmry the only tender for the Lindsay plantation at £1 ss; Mr H. Avison was the only tenderer for the Domain at £5. The action of the Finance Committee in accepting tenders for the reserves was endorsed, GENERAL. The Mayor reported everything satisfactoiy at the gasworks and the waterworks. W. Bloor had done good work during his month's trial as waterworks engineer, and he moved that liis appointment be confirmed. — Carried. The balance-sheet, as approved by the Audit Office, was passed. The pay-sheet, as. follows, was missed for payment:—General, £23.1 3s 4d; waterworks, £25 12*; gas, £l3l 13s 2d; total, £391 8s Gd.
