MAKARETU SPORTS.

The Makaretu Sports Club were very unfortunate in the matter of weather for their annual meeting on Wednesday. It was not so had on the ground, but the outlook early in the morning was so very far from promising that large numbers of people who look forward to this annual gathering with every degree oL pleasure were deterred from making the trip. An excellent programme had been prepared by the club, and the splendid prize money offered drew keen competition. The stewards performed their duties admirably, and the secretary, Mr Reg. Cook, left no stone unturned in the effort to make the meeting quite as successful as any that have preceded it. Results:— Girls' Race, under 10.-—R. Muster 1, M. Durham 2. Boys’ Race, under 10.—L. Ellingkam (95yds.) 3. in the evening a dance was held in the Makaretu Hall, which was crowded. Excellent music was provided by Mrs A. Thomson (piano), Mr W. J. Pellow (violin) and Mr E. J. Maher (cornet).
