SAVAGERY.

VISIT OF THE NAPIER HAPU. On Saturday a strong detachment from the Napier Savage Club paid a visit to the “San” at Pukeora and gave a delightful concert for the entertainment of the nurses and patients. The party subsequently returned to Waipawa. They were entertained at dinner at the Empire Hotel by the local Savage Club, and later attended a korero held in the Concert Hall. The visitors were welcomed in hearty fashion with the tribal ode, and then Chief Savage Murdoch handed over the control of the korero to Chief Savage Hislop. The Napier party contributed the whole ot' the programme, and evidence of its merit and the popularity of the performers, is furnished by the fact that practically every item was encored. The numbers supplied by the orchestra — some 26 in strength—were pleasing in the extreme, and the conductor, Mr Percy Tombs, received an ovation. Songs were given by Savages Tonkin, Whelan, Steele and Tunnicliffe, talks by Savages Cargill and WardellJohnsou, a saxophone solo by Savage Holland, flute solo by Savage White, violin solo by Savage Drummond, pianoforte soios by Savages Tombs and Brusev, and a pianoforte trio by Savages Steele, Brusev and Sutton. The accompaniments were admirably played by the last-named. At the close of the korero the visitors were entertained at supper on the stage, and advantage was taken of the opportunity to renew old friendships.
