ANGLICAN CHURCH.

PARISHIONERS’ MEETING. The annual meeting of parishioners (adjourned from May 12th) was held in St. Peter’s Schoolroom last evening. There was a fair attendance. The Vicar, in his address, reminded parishioners that ladies were now eligible as mpmbers ,of the vestry, and said he considered that the presence of one or two would encourage the men to greater energy. He particularly expressed his appreciation of the splendid work of Mr Everard Jull as parishioners’ churchwarden during the past year. He was gTateful to those clergy who had helped to keep the services going during his illness, and to Mr Brvce (of Waipukurau), who had taken an evening oei'Viee every month. The congregations were indebted to the organists in the various districts, Miss Lee (Waipawa), Miss Selby, Mrs Russell and Miss Buchanan (Onga Onga), Mrs Walker (Tikokino) and Miss Stephenson (Tamumu). Miss Lee and Mr Thorne had reorganised the choir at St. Peter’s, and he hoped the choir would become a factor in the improvement of the services. Mr Bibby and his staff of teachers had faithfully carried on the work of the Sunday school at Waipawa. Opinions had been expressed that the parish should he more enthusiastic in the support of Missions; the balancesheet did not contain a full statement of what was being actually done, as some contributions to Missions were sent direct and did not pass through the hands of the churchwarden. Still, the Church could not do too much for Missions, and he would he glad if they received greater , support. He was grateful to parishioners for the new car placed at his disposal, and hoped the vestry would be generously supported by parishioners in arrangements for paying its cost. The cost of the car should not come out of current revenue. He hoped the “envelope system” would, he widely taken up, and that spasmodic giving, which was affected by weather conditions, epidemics, etc., would give place to regular contributions, so that the ChurcK officers would he able to estimate the probable income of the Church and arrange their finance accordingly. If it had not been for a generous donation from the Lissie Rathbone Trustees there would have been a serious debit balance this year. An attempt should be made to put the finances on a sound basis while we had an opportunity, or there would be a serious crisis when such outside help was exhausted. Mr John Alexander McLean (of Havelock North) was re-electe'd representative to Synod for the next three years. Mr Leonard Pratley was appointed Vicar’s warden and Mr Everard W. Jull was re-elected parishioners’ warden. The following were elected as members of the vestry:—Messrs T. A. Hogg, E. Bibby, L. Grenside, H. J. Pratley, E. A. Banks, R. .1. Pedler, G. Coles, W. Kittow, R. H. AVedde and ,T. Thorne. Two ladies were nominated hut declined appointment. It. was decided to apply for a loan of £IOO from the Diocesan Trustees to repay a portion of the debt to the Abbotsford Lodge. Special votes of thanks were accorded to the Church officers, Mr Bryce, the organists, Sunday school teachers, choir and other Church workers.
