BOROUGH ELECTIONS.

WAIPAWA. CHANGES IN THE COUNCIL. A considerable amount of interest was taken in the borough elections yesterday', as evidenced by the fact that about two-thirds of the number on the roll registered their votes. The result of the poll was declared by the returning officer, Mr H. Fletcher, shortly after 10.30 p.m., as follows; Rathbone, 11. M 324 Hunt, G. II 294 Pellow, W 294 Witherow, F. There are two changes in the personnel of the Council. Mr G. 11. Hunt takes the place of Mr E. H. Brewer, who declined to accept nomination for another term of office, and Mr W. Simpson, replaces Mr A. E. King. HOSPITAL BOARD. The election for a member of the \v aipawa Hospital Board to represent the combined district of Waipawa and Waipukurau was held at the same time ns the borough election. There was almost a block vote here for the Waipawa candidate, Mr W. H. Rathbone, the polling at the local booth being as follows: Rathlyone, W. H 411 Parsons, A. W 22 Informal 9 The voting in Waipilkurau, however, evened up things considerably, that borough strongly supporting its own candidate, as the followingfigures show: — Parsons, A. W 377 Rathbone, W. WAIPUKURAU. MR GOODGER ELECTED MAYOR. With four issues to decide the electors of Waipukurau had a busy time yesterday, but the poll, considering the varied interests, was not a large one. The contests for the Mayoralty, Council and representative on the Harbor Board resulted as follows: MAYORALTY. Goodger, E. A 236 Chambers, W. A 188 Informal 3 COUNCIL. McLean, R 308 Rryye, W. R 228 Informal 4 NAPIER. CLOSE FINISH FOR THE MAYORALTY. . MR BROWN WINS BY THREE. The campaign in Napier was fierce and at times bitter, particularly in regard to the contest for the Mayoralty, in which two old opponents, Mr J. V. Brown, M.P., and Mr H. Hill, the retiring Mayor, met. The rival camps were evenly divided, as indicated by the .voting, which gave Mr Brown a majority of three only, tile figures being as follow: — Brown, J. HASTINGS. MR G. EBBETT ELECTED MAYOR. MR SBISON GETS A SHOCK. The result of the poll for the Mayoralty of Hastings must have come as a big shock to the retiring Chief Magistrate, Mr H. lan Simson, who was near the bottom of the poll, Mr George Ebbett being returned by a substantial majority. New Plymouth.—Mr Burgess was re-elected Mayor. All the Labor candidates for the Borough Council, Hospital and Harbor Boards were defeated.

Eltham—G. W. Taylor 290, T. B. Crump (ex-Mayor) 247. AA'hangarei.—For the Mayoralty John Samuel Dent was re-elected, defeating Donald Alexander McLean by a majority 6f 100.
