WAIPAWA SOCIETY’S SECOND ANNUAL EFFORT.

Pz'actical evidence of the growth of local interest in the poultry industry was furnished by the large number of exhibits, tabled by district owners at the second annual show of the Waipawa Poultry and Pigeon Society, held in the Municipal Theatre yesterday, and although some of the best known poultry fanciers in the North Island were represented it was pleasing to note that the local exhibits compared more than favorably witii the visitors. Taken all round the show was an excedingly good one, and reflected very high credit on those responsible for its organisation. The North Island Championship for Utility Brown Leghorns was awarded to A. C. Aubrey, who holds the Crockett and Jones Cup for the year. The winner was a very fine bird, and was warmly commended by the judge. The show was opened shortly after 2 o’clock by Mr G. Hunter, M.P., who spoke of the educative influence of exhibitions of ths kind, and congratulated the society on the result of their labors.

It is speaking tribute to the zeal and earnestness with which the committee (Messrs J. Aubrey, F. H. Mitchell, A. Smith, W. T. Hicks, W. C. Crockford and J. Corskie) worked that all the birds were penned in time to permit 1 , of the whole of the judging being' completed by 2 o’clock, when the public were admitted, and no hitch occurred to mar the harmonious working. Mr Aubrey performed his multifarious duties as secretary with despatch and method. The committee desire to acknowledge the valued assistance received from Messrs P. Johnson, 0. Hansen, and A. Blake in the penning.

The judging was in the capable hands of Messrs Jarvis (Orpingtons, Rocks, Rhohe Island Reds, and Utility Wyandottes), W. T. Hicks (all varieties Leghorns and Ducks), E. J. Smith (Hainburgs, Bantams, Game, and Canaries), R. A. Williams (Wyandottes and Minorcas). Mr Jarvis also proved a tower of strength in assisting towards the general management of the show.

The attendance of the public during the afternoon and evening was very satisfactory, and it is anticipated that the show will result in a small profit. Following are the details of the awards:—
