LIBERTY LOAN.

CERTIFICATES AND WAR BONDS. FOR THE SMALL INVESTOR. In order that the small investor may see what the “Liberty Loan” means to him a circular is being distributed for patriotic people. This states that under the War Purposes Loans Act, 1917, there will be issued for sale to the public war loap certificates in four values—viz., £l, £lO, £IOO, and £SOO, maturing in five years, and in ten years respectively; and Post Office 5 per cent. War Bonds maturing in ten years. These Certificates and Post Office War Bonds may be obtained at any postal money order office in New Zealand, and only at such offices. On payment of 16s in cash a Certificate for £l, payable in five years, will be issued; and on payment of £8 a Certificate for £lO, payable in five years. The cost price of a Certificate for £1 maturing in ten years is 13s, and of one for £lO, £6 10s. For other amounts see the table below.

All amounts required can be made up by combination of £1 and £lO Certificates—thus, for £25, two £lo’s and five £l’s will be issued. The War Loan Certificates are for the small investor. He receives the same interest as the large investor, and the amount payable at the end of five years or ten years includes compound interest at 45 per cent, on the purchase price. The Certificates will be payable to bearer, and can therefore be sold or transferred from one -person to aonther.

The Post Office will accept custody of the Certificates free of all charge. Applicants wishing to invest from £IOO to £SOO may apply for Post Office 5 per cent. War Bonds, which are issued in one denomination of £IOO, with coupons attached for the collection of interest half-yearly. No person may purchase more than five Post Office War Bonds or War Loan Certificates of a greater value than £SOO. Post Office War Bonds will be issued payable to order if desired. The currency of these bonds is ten years, and the interest 5 per cent., but the revenue therefrom will not be free of income tax. The State is responsible for payment on due date.
