GRAND NATIONAL MEETING. Despite the railway restrictions the attendance at the C.J.C. Grand National meeting on Thursday was very large, and the totalisator handled £51,327 as against £46,366 on the first day last year. Master Strowan, who started fourth favorite, registered an easy win in the Grand National Steeplechase, with St. Elmn and Crib in the places. A second favorite in Stone Ginger got home in the Enfield Steeples, Pareinata second and Tauhira third.

A rank outsider, King Star, who was in 25th position on the machine, snatched a victory on the post in the Winter Cup, Parisian Diamond second and Brambletye third. Killard, Ascalaphus and Hythread were the three placed horses in the Sumner Handicap. SECOND DAY. SANDY PAUL WINS BEAUFORT STEEPLES. (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, This day. The Grand National meeting concluded to-day in beautiful weather. The attendance is again good. Results : Aylesbury Steeples.—Kaupokonui, 12.1, 1; Wellwood, 11.13, 2; Golden Butterfly, 9.12, 3. All started. Bodenliam led for nearly tw miles, when he ran off, Stone Ginger following Vim. Kaupokonui took charge at the last fence and won by a length. Redcliffs Handicap.—Euripos, 10.0, 1; Lion, 9.0, 2;, John Reilly, 9.0, 3. Scratched: Grand Idea, Hythread, Ascalapus, Henriette, Bloomine. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.31 1-5. August Handicap.—Disdainful, 9.3, 1; Miss Deval, 10.9, 2; Charley, 9.0, 3. Scratched: Samisen, Kiltess, Kilkee, Rewanga. Won by three lengths. Time, 1.15 1-5. Beaufort Steeples.— Sandy Paul, 10.2, 1; St. Elmn, 10.13, 2; Nita, 9.8, 3 Scratched: Kirkby. Merry Lad led the field to the kennels double the second time, when he fell, leaving Sandy Paul to win easily by six lengths, Nita six lengths away third. Time, 5.6 3-5.
