EAST COAST RAILWAY.

A DISPUTED POINT SETTLED. (Chvn Correspondent). NAPIER, Yesterday. At Tuesday’s meeting of the Harbor Board, the chairman, Mr A. E. Jull, announced that the Public Works Department had at last agreed to a slight alteration in the route of the East Coast line from Napier to the Port. It had, he said, been mutually agreed upon that the George’s Drive embankment would he continued to the second Taradale road bridge; that the railway line would be moved, and run straight from Faraday street, thus saving the many nasty turns now existing. The Tutaekuri river running on the Avestem side would have a clear course to the outfall, and whilst the Board would certainly benefit in the future, the people,of Napier would immediately benefit. Besides the opportunity to improve Hyderabad road running under the hill the approach to Napier for the East Coast railway would be vastly improved. Not only that, but the arrangement alloAvs Napier to now secure a clear storm water outlet, free entirely from any flood influence.

The arrangement does not involve any money transactions between the Board and the Public Works Department, the Board supplying the necessary land and taking in exchange what is now railway property. It was unanimously resolved to affix the seal of the Board to the agreement. Mr Chambers then moved that a vote of thanks be recorded to Mr .lull for his persistency and final success, congratulating the Board on having the matter so long in dispute now satisfactorily concluded through the efforts of the chairman.

Mr McCarthy, in seconding the motion, also congratulated the chairman and his accompanying delegates on their highly successful efforts. Mr Langridge, as an old member of the Board, was more than pleased that this long-standing dispute was now settled. The motion was carried.
