WALLINGFORD v. WAIPAWA. The game on Saturday, Waipawa Juniors v. Wallingford Juniors, resulted in a victory for the local team. Mr F. Eyre, of Waipawa, was in charge. Waipawa won the toss and played with a strong sun behind them. At the outset both sides played a willing game. For the first half of the game the local team kept the leather dangerously near their opponets’ goal. A line-out practically on top of the Wallingford line enabled N. Schley to carry the ball over. An attempt at conversion failed, the kick being a hard one. The score was shortly afterwards coupled with another by Waaka, who secured the leather about twenty yards from the visitors’ goal and made a good run „for the line. When the whistle blew for half-time the score was 6 to nil in favor of Waipawa.

In the second half the tables were turned a little, and after pressing Waipawa for about ten minutes Wallingford succeeded in scoring between the posts. This was converted by E. Kuru, making the score 6to 5. The game for about a quarter of an hour was very even. A mark hv Waipawa, at a comfortable distance from the goal, enabled Hutana to alter the score, making it 9 to 5, by a successfull place-kick. Wallingford now realised that they would have to put their best foot forward to win, and till the whistle blew they kept the leather well on the move. During a scrummage near the touch-line Johnstone secured the leather and made a gallant run down the line, forcing the hall a few yards from the touch-line. The game from this on was very strenuous, hut neither side succeeded in altering the score, Waipawa winning by 9 to 8. Another match is to he played at Waipukurau in about a fortnight’s time.
