An Auckland Press wire states that Mrs Margaret Jackson has died, aged 101 years 4 months. The many friends of Mr and Mrs Jas. Bibby will be pleased to lean) hat the illness of their son, Private E 3ibby, who is in hospital in France, is officially reported as “not severe.” A Press Association message from Wellington states that news has been received that Brigadier-General Ear] Johnston, eldest son of the Hon. C 1. Johnston, Speaker of the Upper House, has been killed by a sniper in France.
The death took place at “Otatara,” Taradale, this morning of Mr G. P. Donnelly, the well-known sheepfarmei and horse-breeder. The deceased .flayed an active part in the early settlement of Hawke’s Bay. He leaver )ne daughter, Mrs La Morte, and three grandchildren, Airini, Derek, and Mouri Perry. Mr and Mrs H. D. Hardy, of Black burn, received advice from the Minister of Defence on Sunday night that their only son, Private L. W. W Hardy, had been killed in action ii France on July 26th. He had been serving in the trenches for twelve months without a spell. The warm sympathy of the settlers of the whole district will go out to the bereaved parents in their sad loss.
