RUSSIAN CRISIS.
"THE ONLY MAN." CONFIDENCE IN KERENSKY. Reuter Message. PETROGRAD, August 5. M. Nekrahoff, vice-Premier, presided at the historic conference following upon the resignation of M. Kerensky. The sitting ended at 6 o’clock in the morning. M. Tereschenko, summing up the debate, said that the anxiety of all parties to reach an agreement guaranteed the safety of the country. The sitting at one period was suspended to enable the conflicting parties to settle their differences.
Subsequently it was announced that the five chief parties were prepared to entrust M. Kerensky with the reconstitution of the Government on condition, firstly, on behalf of the Socialists, that the Government should adhere to its declaration of the 21st of July; and secondly, on behalf of the Cadets, that the Government enjoys entire freedom as to policy, and not be subjected to the influence of pressure by political parties. All the parties agreed that M. Kerensky was the only man able to assure the safety of the Government and the country. M. Nekrahoff announced that the terms of the compromise would be immediately communicated to M. Kerensky.
