THE IDEAL ANTISEPTIC.
SUCCESS OF FLAVINE, DISCOVERED IN A DYE.
How flavine, a new antiseptic which may revolutionise healing, was discoveord, was described by Sir John BlandSutton at the Middlesex Hospital recently. It was, he .said, the ideal antiseptic. Dr C. Browning, of the Research Department of the hospital, has been making researches into antiseptics, and from coal tar he obtained a dye which ho named flavine. While it destroyed bacteria, it did not injure the tissues. Carbolic applications, on the other hand, damaged the body and sometimes killed the patient. Flavine would be tried on men and horses at the front. Flavine could he used for eye treatment without the least damage being dene to the delicate tissues of even a child’s eye. The new antiseptic was of national importance.
