HUN PAPERS ARE GETTING FEWER.
FOUR THOUSAND HAVE CEASED PUBLICATION. In all countries now at Avar tlie lack of paper has (misec) newspapers anil magazines either to stop circulation altogether or cut down their size considerably. Since the heginnhig of the war quito a, number of papers in England alone have-stopped, the last ond most famous being tho London “Standard.” In France tlie paper famine is very serious. Many 1-roncli newspapers have not contoured more than two or four pages for months, while, of course a large number have stopped. But German newspapers have been more affected In the paper shortage Ilian any others. More than 4,000 have ceased publication till tho war is over, while all tlie remainder have increased their subscription rates by HO per cent. Another cause beshtes the shortage or paper which lias stopped German newsparaws is the fact that they have to .supply huge quantities of copies free .it charge- to the German troops fighting in France nnd Russia. This has proved much too heavv an expense to many Journalists are, indeed, in a very had wav in Germany.
