Banbury (IJ., C ity of London) questioned Mr. As«ju'll l regarding h:s statement on tile previous day that wo had in all eighty-three divisions in the field. That, he stated, /meant only 1,060,000 men. “ Much more than that,’’ replied Mr. Asquith. “You will he safe in taking a division ns representing 25,000 men.” Sir Frederick Banbury: “That would mean about two nnll : on men. How dors the Prime Minister arrive at his figure of five million men enlisted?” Mr. Asquith : “I said that, taking the Army as it was when the war bro- • out, and the subsequent additions, th* effort of the Empire amounted to five million men.” THE GRIEVANCE. Burglar: “The only thing I’m kick ing about is bein’ identified by a man that kep’ his head under the bedclothes the whole time. That’s wrong.”
