rotton, fell in, and has boen replaced by concrete pipes; another on Scrimgoour’s road, also rotten, gave way. The wash-out has been filled in, but no pipes laid, the Council awaiting an answer to a letter written to the Patangata Road Board about same. If the weather keeps fine I expect to have these cleared next week and the road put in order again. Cattle. —Reports of late have been made about cattle being allowed to wander about the roads at night. Repeated efforts have been made to impound these, cattle. The ranger has been able to get them in charge, but the owners have always been on the watch, and released them. As the owners are well-known and liable to prosecution, a ease in Court might have the elfeet of keeping the roads clear. Dogs.—A notice appeared in the paper that all owners of unregistered dogs before the 15th of July, 1916, would he prosecuted. There are still some in the town not registered, and I await the Council *s instructions.
