At last night’s meeting of the Borough Council Mr R. Hay was appointed sexton. Mr L. E. Carne has resigned his position as fire inspector and captain of the Fire Brigade. Mr L. Davy has been appointed captain of the brigade. The death occurred at the Napier Hospital, on Thursday, of Sergeant Tom Richardson, who some months ago was invalided home from Gallipoli. Deceased was one of the first to enlist for the present war, and also saw service in the Boer war. He was well-known in this district, being for some years employed on the Mangatarata estate, and at that time was a valued member of the Waipukurau Football Club. Since his return from Gallipoli deceased had been engaged as recruiting officer in the Waipawa County.
