THROWN BACK BY THE REBELLION. ARCHBISHOP CARR’S VIEWS. (Received This Day 11 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This day. Addressing the Hibernians’ triennial conference, Archbishop Cam* said the Irish rebellion had seriously thrown back Ireland’s cause. While deploring the rebellion, he deprecated the continued execution of rebels. Tile advocates of the utmost severity of the law, who thought fear would prevent further uprisings, must have misread Irish history. A STATEMENT PROMISED. ULSTER LOYALISTS. (Received This Day, 2 p.m. LONDON, May 15. * In the House of Commons Mr Tennant, in reply to a question, hoped to be able to make an early statement as to the disposition of the rebels. The Government had shown every desire to deal as leniently as possible with them. The “Belfast Newsletter,” the chief organ of the Ulster loyalists, declares that a seetion of the English Unionist Press has been guilty of treason. The Unionists are demanding the surrender of the Ulster Unionists.
