COMMERCE RAIDERS

SAID TO BE OPERATING IN THE ATLANTIC, UNCONFIRMED REPORT. (Received This Day 11 a.m.) WASHINGTON, May 8. The Naval Attache at the British Embassy at Washington is investigating a reportt hat two German commerce raiders are at large in the Atlantic off the Azores. The crew of the steamer Venezia (Fabre Line) arriving at Bordeaux, assert that the raiders fired shots at their vessel, but the Venezia escaped. The Attache has notified Halifax, and British cruisers will make a search. It is believed that two submarines accompany the raiders. Later the British Attache announced that he Avas unable to find a trace of any commerce raiders and disbelieves the report.
