Mrs Sydney Johnston is ou a visit to Rotorna.

Mr Noiman .Paulsen, son of Mr M Paulsen, of Taktpau, has passed the M A degree with honours. Mr and Mrs Kelly left by yesterdsy’s express for Auoklsnd, where they will spend a holiday. Mr Will Lawrenoe, touring representative for Professor Norton, arrived in town yesterdsy, to make arrangements for tbe Professor’s appearance here. Mr C. H. Knight, advanoe representative of the Aladdin Pantomime Company, wss in Waipawa, yesterday, making preliminary arrangements. Sir John Tenniel is dead in his 94th year. Many distinguished artists were present at the cremation. His ashes were buried beside his wife, who died sixty years ago.

Mr L McKay (chairmafi) and Mr W H. Hobin (orersrerj of the Waipawa County Couneil, who havt been inspect ing oonerete bridges in Marlborough, returned last night. Mr F. J. The death occurred in Wellington on Friday of Mr James Gsrdicer Ballard, ono of the first officers iQ tbo Post and Telegraph Department of the Dominion, he having joined that branch of the Civil Servioe at Ohristohuroh in 1866 Mr Ballard’s father was one of tbe pioneers of the Canterbury district, tnd held an official position in tbe Immi gration Department for many years, dy ing in 1877.
