Mr David Pirani, well known in the Manawatu and Auckland districts, where he was engaged in journalism eud farming, died suddenly at Palmeretob on Thursday evening, aged 49. After a period of work extending over twelve years, the Rev. F. W. Martin, of Waipukurau, has tendered hiß resignation to the Bishop of the Diocese on aooount of an infirmity rendering it impossible for him to perform the duties of his oflioe efficiently. The mortal remains of the late Mr J. F. Carver were conveyed from St. Patrick’s Church yssterday, and laid to rest in the Hadley Cemetery. There were many old friends of the deceased present and members of the Abbotsford Lodge of Oddfellows also attended. The Rev Father Bergin conducted the funeral ceremony.

The death took place at Hastings, on Thursday morning, of a very old colonist and highly-esteemed resident of Hawke’s Bay, in ths person of Mr John Henn, father of Mrs W. J. Gebbie. The late Mr Henn, who had reached the advanced ago of 87 years, cams to New Zealand in the sixties, and subsequently received an appointment in the Post and Telegraph Department, a position which he retained till some twenty one years ago, whan ha retired from the post of chief clerk at the Napier Post Office on a pension. Deceased saw active service in the Imperial end Indian Armies, for which he received the Imperial pension and also took part in tha Maori ware in New Zealand. He leaves one son, Mr Joseph Henn, of Napier, and two daughters, Mrs W. J. Gebbie, of Hastings, and Mrs W, Taylor, cf Wbangarei, for whom much sympathy will be felt. Mr Hann enjoyed good health up to a few days ago, the immediate oause of death being heart failure,
