A very pleasent evening was ppert in .he Commercial Hotel, last nigL., »ueu the of the Tennis and Golf Clubs met to bid good-bye to Mr G. K, loggitt. Mr H. M. JUthbouo was in he ohair. In the course of a bri*f =p*ech the ohairmau alluded to the high esteem in which Mr Haggitt was held by the business community, while he wu also deservedly popular in tennis and golfing oiroles. Ho was but voicing the pinion of the majority when be stated that Mr Baggitt’s departure was a loss to the town. Dr Deck and Mr Hurt dso eulogised Mr Baggitt’s services to the town and thu various organisation! vith which ho had been associated and regretted his departure. Mr Ratbbone then stated that Mr Haggitt’s sporting friends had de armioed that he should not leave them without taking with him some tangible token of their esteem and regard. On behalt of the Tennis and the Golf Clubs be had much pleasure in handing him a silver mounted ink stand, which ho hoped would prove useful and would remind him of the friends he had made iu Waipawa.
