Municipal Matters.

[to thb editor] Sir, — Some two months ago the ratepayers of part of the Waipawa Borough asked the oounoil to raise a loan and to oreate a special rating distriot and get done with the night cart. By this aotion we desired that no one should lose any* thing, for those interested were willing to pay interest on the loan. I fail to see why our request was refused. We have our councillors ready to take their seats and some new blood upon that body, and surely there should be no trouble in getting what we ask for. I understand that there is a credit balanoe of about £BOO on tbe sewerage loan, whioh is evidence of the oareful manner in whioh the oounoil has looked after our interests. Surely the oounoil does not intend to put this into the gas section. My tip is not to put it there unless it is legal My candid opinion is that the oounoil does not know what a valuable property they have in that seotion, nor do the Waipawa Saleyards Company realise the value of their land. I have heard what prioe a local valuer puts on the gas seotion, and aooording to that valuation the value of the saleyards has risen one hundred per ceut every year since they were purchased. If there is a proportionate rise in value of the gas seotion the council has a very gpod thing on. I am very glad to know that our land is so increasing in value and anticipate a high price forthcoming if ever the yards are sold, when everything is settled about the gas If the oounoil cannot find the ooats let them shut down the light and go back again to the good old dark nights and not forget the old night cart—l am, etc., Thomas Butler.
