Tho Hon. James Carroll has received a cablegram stating that Sir Joseph Ward and party have arrived in England and that thoy are all well. Private H. Barter, who has just joined the Ist Battalion Grenadier Guards, is only eighteeu years of age, but stands 6ft BJm iu his stockings, and is still growing He is said to be the tallest soldier in the British Army. At the annual meeting of householders held in oonnection with the election of a oommittee for the Avondale District School on Monday night Mr John Bollard, M.P., was for the 60th year eleoted on that body. That this easily constitutes a reoosd for the Dominion goes without saying.
