At Waipawa. The municipal ‘ election took place yesterday, but judging by appearances, a great deal of interest was not mani fasted, due no doubt to the fact that there was no burning question to decide There was a steady stream of voters during tho afternoon end the usual stragglers put in an appearance as the poll closed. The returning officer (Mi E J. O’Brien) had made very complete arrangements, whioh facilitated the declaration of the poll and the result was made known About a quarter past nine o’clock. An unusual amount of interest was manifested in the election of a Mayor and Council for the Borough of Hasting?, which was stimulated largely by the contest that was proceeding fi r the return of a representative for the Borough on the Napier Harbour Board. heavy Polling. The Council Returned. [Own Correspondent.] Napier, Yesterday Tho election double, muuioipal and council, ordfeted intense interest, in Napier, and one might well have been pardoned for comparing it with a parliamentary oontest. Motor cars and cabs were plying with great vigor in oarrying voters to tho poll, and, at the main booth particularly, the poll olerks were kopt very busy. Principal interest centred iu the oontest for the three seats on the Harbor Board, there being a clean out issue between inner harbor and breakwater, and the supporters of both parties worked with an enthusiasm worthy of the oause. The returns were very slow in ooming to hand aud it waß well on to midnight before the oounoil returns wore complete and muoh later when the Harbor Board result was deolared.
