Meetings of Householders.

Waipawa. Tho aunual meeting of householders to eleot a sohool committee was held in the District High School, last night. The Mayor (Mr W. I. Limbriok; presided and there was a small attendance.

The report and balanoe sheet (whioh appeared in our last issue) were adopted. The following committee was elected. Messrs J. James, H. M. Rathbone, W. G Downes, T. Carson, T. Williams, T. Thompson, J. Ferguson, E. H. Lee and W. J. Follow. Messrs E. Bibby and O. M. Whittington declined nomination. On the motion of Mr Whittington, tho following resolution was oarried unanimously j—That this meeting of householders considers that in the best interest of education a Dominion scheme for promotion of teachers is urgently required ; and that this resolution be forwarded to the Minister for Education, Wellington.

A circular was read from the Education Board, asking for an expression of opinion regarding tha compulsory clauses of the Aot compelling children between the ages of 14 and 17 to attend technical classes. On the motion of Messrs James and Whittington it was decided that it was not desirable to bring the oorapulsory clauses into effect. Tho latter explained what had transpired at a oouferouoe, held in Napier, on the question, and pointed out the difficulties in enforcing the Aot, which, iu his opinion, was in advance of publio opinion.

Votes of thaukß were accorded Mr Whittington for his long servioes on the committee, to tho retiring committee, and to the staff.

At the meeting of the new committee Mr H. M. Rathbone was elected chairman and Mr James honorary secretary and treasurer. Tho meeting night was fixed for the last Thursday in the month, at 8 o’clock.

Householders Decline to Elect a Committee. (Own Correspondent.] At the householders’ meeting, last night, Mr A. F. Cook was in the ohair. There was a large and representative attendance. The following are oxtraots from the annual report : Roll Number and Attondanoe,—We are pleased to report that the number of scholars attending the sohool has increased during tho year from 215 to 242, the attendance being also satisfactory. Staff—ln regard to the position of assistant master, a long delay took place in filling the vacenoy that ooourred. From the first list of applicants your committee selected Mr Pool, a highly qualified teacher, but we regret to state that ho deolined to oorae to Waipukurau. Repairs —The repairs necessary during the year have been unfortunately a rather heavy call upon our funds, £9 19s having been spent in this direction against £2 17s fid the previous year.
