Mrs Mary Salzman and her sister, Misi El:zabetb, retired from the “ Suioidi field” after ten unsuccessful attempts t( kill themselves.
Our Waipukurau correspondent writes: —The Hon. W. C. Smith, M.L C., has been laid up with pneumonia since Thursday last, and his condition is very critioal.
Messrs H. G Ell and T. H. Davey, M.P’s have replied to Sir Joseph Ward’s telegram with reference to the Coronation invitations, regretting that they are unable to accept.
Mr G H. Curie, who has been acting as lay curate at Takapau, was presented with an inkstand by the choir of St. Mark’s Church, prior to his departure to St. John’s College, Auckland, where he will complete his studies.
Mr A. M. MoNicol, managing editor of the Dannevirkc Evening News, was on the eve of his marriage, presented by the directors of that paper with a solid silver tea service. The Chairman of Directors, Mr Geo. Hunter, who made the presentation, congratulated Mr MoNicol in a happy little speech. The recipient suitably returned thanks.
