SPORTING.

Sculling. (Per Press Association.) Wanganui, This day Tbe weather continues fine with scarcely aDy wind, so that the scullers have everything in their favour for training operations. Arnst has only done light work early in the week and subsequently had what was evidently a trial spin over the full course. The conditions wore almost perfect for good rowiug, the water being practically dead but a breeze was against the scullers. Fogwell took the start from the challenger, making the pace for tbe first mile, which was covered in about C 35. Arnst, rowing 28 at the start, and settling down to 25 to the minute, continued on, a strong pace being paced by young Braithwaite, an amateur, over the latter half of the distance, whioh was covered in good timo, the big fellow rowing well all through and finishing strongly. The time for the full distance has not leaked out but apparently it was very satisfactory to the friends of the ex oyclist.

Webb was also out, doing a fast burst over a mile aud a half, the first mile being cut out in a little over 6 minutes. The champion, rowing in splendid style, started off with a long and powerful stroke 28 to the miuute, settling down to a 25 rate. It was a very pretty bit of sculling. Webb is now doing more hard rowing. Most of his work, so far, in the boat is of the slow order. Both men are in excellent health and spirits and supporters of each are confident.

A meeting of the committee of the Waipawa Racing Club will be held in the Commercial Hotel, at 8 p.m, on Monday next. Arnst, who is to row Webb for the sculling championship waa 25 years of age on Monday. Arnst and Fogwell were in Wanganui on Saturday discussing matters with Mr Tuck in oonneotion with arrangements for the race. Arnst looks very well, aud says ho feels in tiptop oondition. Ho states that ho is thoroughly enjoying camp life, and considers that he will be in quite the best possible nick on the day that he meetß Webb.
