Mr R. Ward, of Patangata, aooompaniad by Mrs Ward, leave on a trip to England this week. The Hon. Mowbray Bt. John and Mrs and the Misses St. John, who arrived from England by the Tongariro, are staying with Mr A. H. Russell, of Hastings. The present intention of the party is to settle in New Zealand. Mr J. 11. Chapman, headmaster of tho Arthur street School, Dunediu, met with a painful and serious accident. It appears that Mr Chapman was striking a wax match when the head flew off and landed in one of his eyes. The injured eye had to be removed. It is understood that tho operation was successful. Mr D. B. Harris, of Palmerston North, received the distressing news by cable on Friday of the sorious illness of bit sou Victor, who is studying at the Royal Academy in London.
