CINDERELLA STILL LEADS.
Once more Cinderella appears to have made good her title to the first place among the pantomimes, a proud position, to which she must be well accustomed by this time, for within the last sixteen years she has been the first favorite no fewer than six times, -while twice she has shared the honor with a rival. And, in spite of her eternal youthfulness, she has a very venerable antiquity to support her claims. It is said that Cinderella was a prime favorite with the Egyptians in the days of the Pharoahs; and, however this may he. there Is no doubt that she flourished many a century in the East before the Briton made her charming acquaintance. There are about r>oo variants of her
story, 345 of which have bon collected and tabulated by the British Folk Lore Society; and in one or other of them Cinderella has captured hearts almost the whole world over.—“ Westminster Gazette." , a
