WAIPUKURAU ITEMS,

Two prizes, a boy’s and a girl’s, presented by Mr R. Smart, for the best essay on the subjeot “ Empire Day,” oonfined to Fifth and Sixth Standard pupils iu the district school, have been gained by Master B. Hopkirk and Miss Mary Gore, respectively. Mr A. Willisoroft, carpenter, who has been in the employment of Mr W. A. Chambers for tho past eighteen months, died suddonly yesterday morning. The deceased had been laid up with influenza for about a fortnight, and was making progress towards recovery, wheu he suffered a relapse early yesterday morning. Dr Godfray who had been in attendance, was sent for. Tho deceased, in a fit of coughing, burst a blood vessel and suddenly expired. He leaves a wife and a young family, for whom much sympathy is expressed.
Mr J. Williams has disposed of his house and section, on Racecourse read, to Mr C. Hall, Waipukurau. Mr Williams anticipates taking a trip to Melbourne, after which it is his intention, along with Mrs Williams and family, to visit the Old Country.
