The Third Cup.

The match for the Hunter Cup between the Waipawa and the Waipukurau Thirds was played on the Empire ground, yesterday, and was won by the home team by 9 poiuts to nil. Lowe, Kuri and Weir scored tries, none of which were converted. By this victory Waipawa hold the Hunter Cup for a year. The teams gave a good exhibition of football {and there was some open passing rushes which made tho game exoiting. Waipawa had the best of the play in both spells and kept up a general attaok. Early in tho game a Red player got over, but the try was disallowed. Soon after Lowe gained possession from a passing rush and scored, but Abrahams failed with the kick. Later in tho Bpell Joe Kuni ran in noar the corner flag, but the kick at goal was fruitless. In the second spell Lyons passed to Nepi, who ran well up the field and transferred to Weir, who crossed the line, but the major points were not registered. Mr Gebbia was referee. Waipawa v. Scinde Harriers. In order to give the sub-union players a chance of getting in form for the subunion matches, it has been decided to arrange a match with the Scinde Harriers for Wednesday next. The following team will represent Waipawa :—Fullback, Wilder; three-quarters, Collett, Ferguson, Ryan; five-eighths, Glasgow, Sharpin; half, Kelliher; forwards, White, Speedy, Mitchell, Wall, Mullaney, Maokay, Bailey, Moroney. Emergencies—Back, Pirie; forward, Bowling. Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union. [Own Correspondent.] Napier, Yesterday. At a meeting of the Rugby Union at Napier, on Tuesday evening, it was decided to invite the East Coast (Porangahau) Sub-union to play a match at Napier on July 14th. Five players who failed to put in an appearance to play for Napier against Waipawa last Saturday, are to be asked to explain. The various sub-unions were granted permission to play for the Hunter shield. A meeting of the Waipawa Football Club is called for this evening at 7.30 o’clock. The men’s competition for & club, presented by Mrs Rathbone, president of the Golf Club, will take place on the Abbotsford liuks. Rounds maybe played on Saturday, 7th inst., or Wednesday, 11th inst. Players must declare before going out which, day they choose.
