Waipawa Town Board.

The Waipawa Town Board met on Thursday afternoon. Present:— Messrs Limbrick (chairman), McQreevy, Rathbone, Harker and Pattison. a ENSEAL. Permission was given the Waipawa Rifles to use the Board’s flags for decorative purposes at their annual ball. The clerk reported that Messrs Bibby Bros, had intimated that they would fence in their section at the corner of Ruataniwha Road. The chairman reported that Mrs Rathhone’s solicitor had informed him that the matter of removing buildings on the road line in the Great North Road would receive attention. It was decided to connect the Rev. Mr Stowell’s residence with the main sewer, and to call upon him to pay the cost. The overseer was instructed to finally call upon all property owners owing amounts for drain connections to pay at once, failing immediate payment to sue. oveeseek’s report. Gentlemen,—l have the honor to report the work done for last month. Tarring footpaths Kenilworth and Waverley-streets, andpatchingin town, metalling newly-formed footpath in Church-street, repairing fence and slips west end of Ruataniwha road, paving water channel Waverley-street. This work was stopped on account of urgent work ; 24 inch pipe culvert having been put in across road in Rosestreet, attending on Mr Burmister re water-supply, with the usual routine is the work done for the month. NEW WOBKS. When the main sewer was laid in Ruataniwha road the pipes ran through a wooden culvert, which has since 1 rotted, causing a break in the pipes. This has also been the cause of the overflow of storm water at the junc- : tion of Ruataniwha road and Kenil-worth-streot. Most of the members having seen same, it will be for you to ; deoide what is to be done. Metal patching in Church and Waverleystreets is also needed. The metal put on in Church-street has mostly all gone out of sight. 11. Fletoheb, Overseer. EECOMMENDATIONB. It was decided to give effect to the • overseer’s recommendations. WATER-SUPPLY. 1 The following report was read : 1 Gentlemen,—Acting on your instructions of the 11th ultimo, I have obtained the necessary data for estimates of the proposed high pressure water-supply from the undermentioned sources.—No. 1. Creek running through 1 Abbotsford Estate, near Manga-o-Nuka i stream. No. 2. Spring on bed of . Waipawa river, adjoining Lindsay > Settlement. No. 8. Pumping from Waipawa River.—With regard to a ■ supply from the creek running through - the Abbotsford Estate, this is the only ’ stream of the various ones examined 1 by me, from which a supply by gravi- • tation can be drawn (within a reason- , able distance) to supply the whole population of Waipawa, including those residing at an altitude of 150 . feet above the main street.—l estimate the approximate cost of a supply from this stream (if spiral steel pipes , are used for the main head line, and cast iron pipes for the reteculation of ' the town) at £6854, including filter beds and reservoir.—No. 2. Spring on bed of Waipawa river, adjoining Lindsay Settlement. As the elevation of this splendid spring is less than 50 feet above the kerbing opposite the door of your Board’s office, it is therefore useless for a gravitation scheme, but nevertheless it is quite possible to utilise it by conveying the water therefrom in a line of mains to a site on the bank of the Waipawa river near the traffic bridge, which is suitable for ■ a hydraulic station, and from thence force it up to a reservoir on the hill, by means of hydraulic rams. The approximate cost of this scheme complete, including service reservoir, hydraulic station, etc., would be about £6203.—N0. 3. Supply by pumping from Waipawa river. I find that the initial cost of a supply by pumping is slightly below the first cost of the gravitation and hydraulic schemes, as I estimate the installing of a supply by this means approximate at £4600. This includes a large service reservoir. As regards the annual cost of this latter scheme, I am awaiting quotations regarding a certain class of engine, and when I receive same will inform you of the approximate annual cost of up-keep, etc. H. Buemeisteb, After some discussion, Mr Limbrick proposed and Mr Pattison seconded that the ratepayers be asked to adopt the pumping scheme. Mr Harker moved that the gravitation scheme be adopted but the motion did not find a seconder. The motion was carried, Mr Harker voting against it. The chairman and clerk were empowered to call the meeting of ratepayers. BAY SHEET. The following pay sheet was passed for payment : £ s. d. Public Library H 0 9 J. C. Taylor ... ... ... 5 8 4 K.
