High Commissionership.
[Per Press Association], Wellington, This day
At the social gathering last evening tendered to Mr Kerwin, tramway constructing engineer, reference was made, in proposing the toast of the Ministry, to the High Commissionership. Mr Beddon, in replying, said his friends had gone so far as almost to label his boxes and take out his ticket for London. They could take the horse to water, but not make him drink. He felt he could do more good for New Zealand and the Empire in New Zealand than away from it, and he was not going to leave New Zealand.
