McCarthy’s Family Hotel, opposite thf railway station, was destroyed by fire on Sixteen bparde# were in the house and they, with the servants and the family, escaped in thair night clothes. One man, James Galpin, haß been taken t<* the hospital suffering from burned feet, sustained by running barefooted down the passage. The building was insured for £ISOO, the risk being divided in the Loudon and Lancashire £SOO, Alliance £SOO, Commercial £SOO. The stock and form* ture wera indued for £9OO. Of this £4od Was held by the North feritish and Mercantile.

A fire on College Hill' did considerable damage to a wooden block of shops owned by Miss W. H. Leys. The outbreak was in a residential part, occupied by Mr W. Collins, baker, which was destroyed. The damage was covered by insurance.
