(Per Press Association) Wellington, This day. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London 15th inst: — The mutton market is quiet but steady at prices cabled last week. There has been no alteration in the lamb market during the past week. Shipments of American chilled beef are increasing, an evidence that New Zealand beef is being freely pushed for sale. The average price today for hind-quarters of New Zealand beef is s£d, fore-quarters 3fd. The butter market is firm. The average price of choicest New Zealand butter to-day is 97“ per cwt, Australian 955, Danish 110 s, Irish 995. There is a better demand for cheese. The average price of finest New Zealaud cheese to-day is 41s per cwt, Canadian 425. The hemp market continues dull. The price for New Zealand hemp good fair Wellington grade, on spot, to-day is £29 10s, August to December shipments £29. The price of Manila hemp is fair, current grade, on spot, to-day £36. The cocksfoot market is steady. There is scarcely any demand. The average price to-day for bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171 b per bushel, on spot, is from 62s to 53s per cwt.
