HATUMA.

(Own Correspondent) Mr Brodie, the lately appointed veterinary surgeon to the Hawke’s Bay branch of the Farmers’ Union, visited Hatuma on Friday evening, and interviewed the settlers. Very little interest appears to be taken in the Union, as only about ten were present. After explaining the terms upon which his services could be secured, he intimated his intention of giving a lecture, when he hoped to meet more of the settlers. A vote of thanks was passed to him and to Mr Potts, who introduced him. There are now thirty-seven children upon the roll of the Hatuma school, and eleven attending the Waipukurau school from here. A rara avis, a white sparrow, may be seen about the paddocks near the homestead.
