The Volcanic Eruption.
Mont Pelee Belches Forth. (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) [United Press Association.] NEW YORK, June 9. There was auother terrible eruption at Mont Pelee on the 7th. Darkness prevailed from 10 o’clock in the morning till 2 in the afternoon. The plains of Morneronge were covered with hot mud. Some lives were lost. The damage is moderate.
A meeting of the Loyal Abbotsford Lodge will be held at 7.30 p.m, on Thursday. Mrs Swain announces that she has begun her evening dancing class for ladies and gentlemen. Full particulars appear in our advertising columns. The election of a councillor for Ruataniwha riding, on the Waipawa County Council, took place yesterday, the candidates being Messrs Cook and Sattrup. Up to the time of going to press the oomplete returns are not to hand, owing to the difficulty of communication with Wakarara, but it is believed it will be a very close thing as to which gentleman is returned.
