A Somnolent Committee.
[to the editor. J Sir, —Some time ago a movement was initiated to raise funds for the purpose of erecting a memorial stone to the memory of the late lamented Trooper W. Scott. A meeting was called, at which a good deal of enthusiasm was shown. A committee was appointed to carry the affair to a successful issue; and three sums that I know of were handed over to aid the project, viz., the cash collected by pupils of the Waipawa District School some two years ago, a donation from the “ Welcome Home ” committee, and the proceeds of an entertainment given by the Waipawa Dramatic Society. But where is the monument ? Has anything further been done in the matter ? When will the committee 1 wake up and do the work entrusted to them ? If they are too tired, then in common justice to subscribers they should hand over the cash in hand to someone else to deal with. It would be interesting to know the names of the committee, my memory fails me. Perhaps, Mr Editor, you could inform your readers.—l am, &c., Subscriber.
