MAKOTUKU.
(OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Tho only visibly result of the late inquiry io the Waikopiro block is that Mr Marshall, surveyor, has been sent up to lay off tho road opposite Mr Chadwick’s section. From all accounts there aro no funds to do any formation. It does seem extraordinary that money can be found to pay an overseer under these eircum stances. There is still no sign of the bridge aoross the Manawatu. It is very hard on the settlers to be left this way year after year. Certain’y the administration in this block is anything but creditable to those in charge. It appears that our only lawyer thought he could retain witnesses’ expeasos to secure himself in a recent assault case, but tho SM. told him differently last Wednesday, at Ormondville, and ordered him to “ fork out,” aud also pay expenses as well. The Makotuku people aro very slow in rebuilding their church. Tbe services are held in the Foresters’ hall in the meantime. Totara posts are evidently getting scarce, as a carter came all the way from PoraDgahau to try and secure 2000 here. Tho late fire has about wiped out any green bush wo had about here.
