(by submarine gable) (Received 11.15 a.m) SYDNEY, This day The Government have received a cablegram from the Secretary of State for the Colonies stating that H.M.S. Orlando has been recommissioned for the Australian stations. MELBOURNE, This day Mr D. B. Lazarus has been elected Member for Sandhurst to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr Burrowes. The reconstruction scheme of the Federal Buildiug Society has been rejected. The society therefore continues to liquidate. Speaking at Boart. Mr Mclntyre the Minister ot Lands, declared it would be ruinous to those who had invested capital in factories and industries if the colony returned to a policy of freetrade suddenly. If the electors decided in favor of freetrade, the return must, he said, be gradual. BRISBANE, This day A resolution affirming the desirability of an increase in the payment to members was negatived on the casting vote of the Speaker. HOBART, This day In the Legislative Council the Hon Mr Fysh moved that the Income Tax Bill bs read that day six months. The resolution was carried by ten to five. PERTH. W.A., This day The Council withdrew its ame idment to the Constitution Amendment Bill and the Bill was passed by a majority of one. NEWCASTLE This day Arrived—Eillan Donan from New Zealand.
